Apple Roses | Baking With Danielle

I love cooking and baking so when I see Amelia Liana youtube video baking these incredible apple roses with her mum and nan, I simply had to try it for myself.

I really like simple, easy and fuss free recipes the healthier the better, but a treat once in a while is always good, it's all about balance. So a perfect sweet treat with a freshly made coffee or as a warm dessert with ice cream on the side and even more perfect if you have friends coming over, if you are entertaining.

First thing is that you will need is ingredients: 

Puff Pastry
4 Apples 
Brown Sugar 
1 Lemon 
Jam of your Choice, I picked Strawberry
A muffin tray

To start you will need to pre heat the oven to 180C/gas mark 4, you will need to then start to thinly slice the apples, squeeze some lemon to stop the apples turning brown and pop into a bowl of water until the apples are covered then place in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes. 
Regularly check the apple slices you want them to be soft so that they are easy to roll, if you don't they will just snap and you won't have the swirling rose effect. 

While the Apples are in the Microwave you need to prep the puff pastry, I sprinkled some plain flour on the worktop to prevent the pastry from sticking, you will then need to brush the pastry with your choice of jam, then cut the pastry into 6/7 sections like below.

Once the apple slices are soft, pop the slices onto some kitchen paper and pat dry to get rid of any excess water.

This is the fun part you need to lay the apple slice's so that they are overlapping each other about half the way down in pastry, the closer they are the more of the rose effect you will get. 
Once you have layered the slices you will need to fold the pastry over, be gentle to not to makes holes as your apples slices will fall out.
and then from one end roll the apple and puffy pastry. 

Once you have rolled the apple rose pop into the muffin tin and repeat the process for the other sections of puff pastry.

Depending on your preference you can take a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of brown sugar and sprinkle over each apple rose.
Pop into the oven between 40/45 minutes, once cooked pop on the side to cool before removing from the muffin tin. You can eat them at room temperature or pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds to have hot.
